Learn about the Sabbatical year in an interfaith setting with Rabbi Katy Allen of Ma'yan Tikvah in Wayland and Rev. Debbie Clark of Edwards Church in Framingham.

Session 1: We will explore the Biblical texts about the Sabbatical year (Shmita) and the commandments to let the land lie fallow and to release debts, together with selected Jewish and Christian post-biblical commentaries .

Session 2: We will examine modern texts, including both spiritual resources and practical ideas, showing how the Jewish environmental community is using the Sabbatical year as a foundation for exploring a value-laden approach to sustainability. We will end with a discussion of how we can use the ideas learned about Shmita as a spiritual foundation for communal action to preserve and protect the Earth, including specific actions the group wants to take.

Potluck vegetarian dinner to follow each session.
